Neuchâtel is a historic
university city located in the French -speaking part of
Switzerland. It is in the west of the country sandwiched
between the Jura Mountains and Lake Neuchâtel, the
largest lake in Switzerland.
The city is famous for its
established university, its historic castle, its old cobbled
streets, its regular market, and its gentle ambience amongst
many other attractions. The city also has many traditional
shops where one can buy fine jewellery, local cheeses, and
some of switzerland's world-famous chocolate. These are
also many festivals during the year, such as the wine festival
with the street parades and the buskers' festival.
Neuchâtel
is easily accessible by a very efficient rail network
and a modern highway system. the city is approximately 1 hour
20 minutes from Geneva airport, 2 hours 10 minutes from
Zurich airport and 50 minutes from Bern, the capital of
the country. There are also excellent travel links with
the surrounding countries (i.e. France, Germany, Italy
and Austria), as well as a direct line to Paris with the famous
French high-speed train, the TGV.
